Volunteer Application
Clerical/Office Support
Office volunteers are needed to help staff the AVOL office between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Volunteer duties include answering the phone, photocopying, filing, and helping with various small projects. Shifts are scheduled based on hours volunteers are available to work.
Transportation
Volunteers are needed to help transport clients to and from doctors appointments and to run errands (grocery shopping, bank, etc.). Most appointments are during the day, although volunteers may be utilized in the evening. Some clients may need volunteers to remain with them during doctors appointments, while others may simply need to be dropped off and then picked up after the appointment.
Information Tables
Volunteers are needed to staff information tables at health fairs, community events, etc. Volunteers may be responsible for distributing literature and other materials. A basic knowledge of the agency is required, as well as a basic understanding of HIV/AIDS.
Speakers Bureau
AVOL provides speakers to talk about all aspects of HIV/AIDS. HIV positive speakers are also needed to talk about living with HIV/AIDS.
Caregiving Teams
The Caregiving Program is designed to bring together the interests, talents, and services of volunteers and HIV/AIDS individuals in the community. Caregivers help clients with tasks such as errands, light housekeeping, social visits, phone visits, and transportation. Caregiving teams are assigned to clients at the Solomon House, Rainbow Apartments, or to clients in the community.
Fundraising
Fundraising efforts by or on behalf of AVOL happen sporadically throughout the year. Fundraising events include the Art for Life Auction and the Run as One 5k Run/Walk. Volunteer duties vary according to the fundraising effort or event.
Bar Outreach
Bar Outreach is conducted at various local bars through the AVOL Friend to Friend Project. Contacts are made with bar patrons to discuss safe sex issues and distribute condoms. Volunteers must be 21 years or older.
